The Silentnight Super Snuggly topper promises 10cm of plush hollowfibre for under £60 a single, and it holds a 4.6-star rating on Argos. Yet scroll through the low-star reviews and the same complaint keeps surfacing: it isn’t 10cm. Some owners say it turned a hard bed into a cloud. Others measured 4cm and sent it back. Both groups are telling the truth.
We haven’t slept on this topper, so this isn’t a hands-on test. It’s a close read of 199 Argos reviews, 28 Habitat reviews, the customer Q&A, the spec sheet and Silentnight’s own topper guidance. For the wider range, start with our Silentnight mattress topper review, then come back here for the verdict.
- It comes in one depth only: 10cm of hollowfibre in a microfibre cover with corner straps. There is no 5cm Super Snuggly topper.
- Argos lists it from £52 (single) to £82 (super king). We couldn’t find it on silentnight.co.uk or at MattressNextDay.
- Argos shows 4.6 stars from 199 reviews, but “thinner than advertised” is the dominant complaint.
- It suits soft-sleeper rescue on a firm spare bed, sofa bed or camper. It doesn’t suit hot sleepers or worn-out mattresses.
What is the Silentnight Super Snuggly topper?
It’s a budget hollowfibre topper, sold at Argos and Habitat, with a 10cm label depth and a soft-touch microfibre cover on both sides. Silentnight’s “Super Snuggly” name also covers duvets, pillows and a mattress protector, which causes plenty of mix-ups when you search. The topper is the 10cm one.

Does the Super Snuggly topper flatten, or is it just soft?
Both complaints exist, and they’re different problems. A minority say it never reached 10cm out of the bag. Fewer say it flattened within weeks. Most reviewers are happy: 91% of Argos ratings are four or five stars. So which camp is right? Mostly both, because the disagreement is about expectations.
We read all ten 1 and 2 star reviews on the Argos page. Some reviews mention more than one issue, so the tallies below overlap. Five say the thickness fell short of 10cm. Across the Argos and Habitat pages, owners report measuring about 4cm, about 5cm and 1 to 2cm under load.
Two mention flattening, one after little more than a week on teenagers’ beds. Three say it didn’t improve an old or very firm base, one calling it a slim duvet with straps. One blames heat compared with memory foam.
The praise is just as specific. Happy reviewers on the Habitat listing, which shares Argos’s reviews, describe a hard mattress turned cosy, a firm sofa bed made comfortable, a cheap mattress rescued, an inflatable bed softened and a motorhome bed improved. Notice the pattern: many of the happiest owners use it on sofa beds, campers and spare beds. Source: Argos reviews · Habitat reviews
Is that a flaw in this particular topper, or simply what polyester fibre does? Independent guidance points to the second. Which? describes hollowfibre as the most affordable topper filling, one that needs regular shaking to restore its loft and flattens more quickly than down. The Sleep Foundation says lofty polyester fills can flatten over time, although better fill and construction help. Source: Which? mattress topper guide · Sleep Foundation
Can you wash a Super Snuggly topper?
Yes, according to Argos: the cover is machine washable and tumble dryer safe. Washing and tumble drying aren’t a reliable fix for lost loft, though. One reviewer tumble dried theirs as advised and said it made no difference, and another said the fibre wouldn’t puff back up however much they shook it.

How does it compare with the Deep Sleep and Airmax toppers?
On paper they’re close: all three are 10cm hollowfibre toppers at similar prices. Deep Sleep Ultimate adds internal walls to keep its filling plump, and Airmax adds mesh sides for airflow. Super Snuggly has neither feature listed, which may explain why its thickness complaints feel sharper.
| 10cm topper | Design note | From price | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Super Snuggly (Argos) | Plain hollowfibre, corner straps | £52 (single) | 4.6 (199) |
| Deep Sleep Ultimate 1000 (Silentnight) | Internal walls, hypoallergenic | £37 (single) | 4.3 (67) |
| Deep Sleep 10cm (Argos) | Argos listing of the Deep Sleep range | £52 (single) | 4.6 (229) |
| Airmax 1000 (Silentnight) | Dual layer, air mesh sides | £38 (double) | 4.2 (191) |

Here’s the awkward finding: critical reviews of the Airmax 1000 on silentnight.co.uk report the same thing, including one owner who measured about 5cm unloaded and another who found it flattened after a couple of nights. The complaint seems to follow 10cm hollowfibre toppers generally, not just this one. So why pay £52 here when Silentnight’s own Deep Sleep Ultimate 1000 starts at £37? On price alone, the Silentnight listing is the one to check first. Our Airmax topper review digs into the numbering confusion across retailers.
Who should buy it, and who should avoid it?
Buy it as a cheap soft layer for a firm guest bed, sofa bed, caravan or camper. Avoid it if you sleep hot, need pressure relief for hips or shoulders, or hope to rescue a mattress that has sagged. Those are jobs for memory foam or a new mattress.
| Buy it if | Skip it if |
|---|---|
| A firm spare bed needs softening | Your mattress has dips or sags |
| It’s for a sofa bed, camper or caravan | You sleep hot, since one reviewer found it sweaty |
| You want a washable, strap-on layer under £60 | You expect a full 10cm of loft under body weight |
| You can wait 48 hours for it to expand | You need pressure relief, not just softness |
Our verdict: roughly 3.5 out of 5 as a budget soft layer, and 2 out of 5 as a fix for a bad mattress. That’s an editorial judgement from the review evidence, not a test score. Quick Answers
Does the Silentnight Super Snuggly topper flatten?
Some owners say so. Two of ten low-star Argos reviews mention flattening, one within a week. Hollowfibre compresses with use, and Silentnight’s guide suggests synthetic toppers may last about two years. Laying it flat for up to 48 hours first helps it regain loft.
Is the Super Snuggly topper really 10cm thick?
The label and Argos spec say 10cm, and a Habitat Q&A answer confirms the single is 10cm deep. Several reviewers measured nearer 4 to 5cm. Under body weight, expect noticeably less than the unloaded height, as with any hollowfibre topper.
Will a Super Snuggly topper fix a mattress that has started to sag?
No. Reviewers who tried it on old or very firm bases say it added softness but no support, and Silentnight’s own guide says a topper shouldn’t replace a worn or damaged mattress. If the dip is visible, plan to replace the mattress.
Is the Super Snuggly topper any good for hot sleepers?
Probably not. It’s a solid hollowfibre layer with no mesh sides, and one reviewer who swapped from memory foam said it left them sweaty. If you run hot, the Airmax range is built around airflow, so it makes a better starting point.
Can you use a Super Snuggly topper on a sofa bed or in a caravan?
Yes, and that’s where it scores best. Reviewers praise it on a firm sofa bed, an inflatable mattress and a motorhome bed. Check the size, because Argos advises against using a larger topper on a smaller bed.
