Every mattress brand has unhappy customers, and Silentnight is no exception. Search for complaints and you’ll find dips that appeared within weeks, guarantee claims that went nowhere, and late deliveries. You’ll also find more than nine thousand reviews rating the brand highly. Both are true at once.
So this page looks at the complaints properly. We checked the live Trustpilot page, read Silentnight’s current guarantee booklets in full, and checked the escalation routes against live sources in October 2026. The aim: help you tell a settling mattress from a faulty one, and know what to do if yours is faulty.
The Short Answer
- Trustpilot rates Silentnight’s own shop 4.2 out of 5 from 9,141 reviews (checked 28 October 2026), with 70% giving five stars and 12% one star.
- In the 20 one-star reviews we could read, customer service and delivery came up far more often than sagging. That’s our reading of a small sample, not a Trustpilot statistic.
- Silentnight’s guarantee runs five years as standard, or 15 years on mattresses (10 on divans and headboards) if you register within three months. Silentnight calls that registered cover “lifetime”. It covers manufacturing faults and excludes expected settlement. The booklet states no dip depth.
- If you bought from a retailer, Silentnight points you to the retailer first, and your Consumer Rights Act 2015 rights are against the retailer, not Silentnight.
- Silentnight Group wasn’t on the Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman’s member list when we checked, so the ombudsman route depends on whether your retailer has joined.
Do Silentnight Mattresses Really Sag?
Some do, as with every mass-market mattress brand, but in the 20 recent one-star reviews we could read, customer service and delivery complaints outnumbered sagging reports. That’s a small sample, not a failure rate. No public dataset breaks complaints down by range, so anyone naming a “worst” model is guessing. Source: Trustpilot
| Trustpilot rating | Share of 9,141 reviews |
|---|---|
| 5 stars | 70% |
| 4 stars | 10% |
| 3 stars | 5% |
| 2 stars | 3% |
| 1 star | 12% |
Data: Trustpilot, shop.silentnight.co.uk, TrustScore 4.2, read 28 October 2026. 1,142 of the reviews were posted in the previous 12 months.
Chart data: our tally of the first 20 one-star reviews visible on Trustpilot, 28 October 2026. Reviews can carry more than one theme, so bars overlap. It’s a small sample, not a failure rate.
Trustpilot’s own summary of recent reviews names delivery as the main drawback, and shows Silentnight replying to negative reviews (the profile says 100% of them, typically within 24 hours). The sagging complaints that do appear are specific: a dip within eight weeks, and a guarantee claim on a three-year-old mattress that went unacknowledged.
Forum evidence is thin. A September 2025 Mumsnet thread about Premier Inn beds is mostly about Hypnos, and the few Silentnight comments are mixed: one poster is happy with it, one saw visible wear after a few weeks, and one reports springs poking through a Silent Night mattress within four years (model unclear). Nobody there mentions sagging. We could not access Reddit’s r/Mattress threads for this research, so we haven’t cited them.
Is It Sagging or Just a Body Impression?
A body impression is a shallow, even dip where you lie as the fillings settle, usually within the first few weeks. Sagging is a lack of support you can feel through to the base. The National Bed Federation says some settlement is expected and that no official industry standard exists for judging whether it’s excessive. Source: NBF Bed Advice
That gap is why disputes happen. There’s no agreed dip depth to point to, and the NBF says informal rules of thumb lack scientific backing. Silentnight’s own guarantee booklet gives no figure at all.
The NBF lists what makes impressions more visible: heavier sleepers, synthetic fibre fillings (which recover less well than natural ones), softer firmness, single-sided “no-turn” construction, and larger sizes where the unused centre creates a ridge beside the sleeping areas. Silentnight’s booklet adds that you should expect “a little settlement” after several months. Source: Silentnight guarantee booklet
Which Silentnight Ranges Get Complaints?
There’s no public range-by-range complaint data, so we can’t rank Silentnight’s ranges by failure rate. We can say which construction factors the National Bed Federation links to more visible settlement. They cut across ranges rather than belonging to one, so check them against whatever you’re considering, whatever the label says.
| Factor | Why it matters | How to check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Single-sided (“no-turn”) | Only one surface can be used, so wear can’t be spread by flipping | Label on the underside; the product page |
| Synthetic fibre fillings | Recover less well than natural fillings | Filling list on the retailer listing |
| Softer firmness | Impressions show more in a softer surface | The firmness rating on the product page |
| Heavier sleepers | More pressure at hips and shoulders | Weigh body weight against the firmness rating |
| Larger sizes, one sleeper | Unused centre stays high, emphasising the dip | Rotate regularly; consider a size you’ll use fully |
Factors from the National Bed Federation’s advice site. Checks are our suggestions.

How Do You Claim Under the Silentnight Guarantee?
Silentnight’s standard guarantee runs five years and covers manufacturing faults in materials or workmanship. Bought from a retailer? Silentnight’s guarantees page tells you to check the retailer’s guarantee first. After that, or if you bought direct, you register a claim with Silentnight, with proof of purchase and photos of the full bed, the fault and the bare base. Source: Silentnight
- Check where you bought it. Retailers may offer longer cover than one year, so read their terms first.
- Year one: contact the retailer. Silentnight’s booklet says it’s usual for the retailer to deal with the claim in the first year. Follow their process, not Silentnight’s. Source: Silentnight guarantee booklet
- Gather evidence. Proof of purchase or delivery, plus photos of the full mattress with bed linen removed, close-ups of the problem, and the base with the mattress lifted off.
- Register the claim online through Silentnight’s guarantee page, or ring Silentnight’s customer line on 0333 123 0892. You’ll get a confirmation email, and customer services will confirm next steps.
- Keep the mattress. Silentnight may send an independent specialist for an in-home assessment, and the remedy is repair or replacement of the affected part or the whole product.
| Guarantee | Mattress cover | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 5 years | Bought from an authorised retailer; manufacturing faults only |
| “Lifetime” (free; Silentnight’s label for the registered cover) | 15 years (10 years on divans, headboards and frames) | Register within 3 months of purchase; same fault and care terms |
Terms from Silentnight’s guarantees page and the September 2025 guarantee booklet. Sleep Now rolled mattresses get 10 years under the scheme. Retailer listings vary: MattressNextDay’s Silentnight page, for instance, says 3 to 5 years depending on the model, so confirm the cover for your exact one.
What Can Void or Weaken a Silentnight Claim?
Silentnight’s guarantee excludes accidental damage, misuse, soiling, unsuitable bases and normal wear, including expected settlement of fillings. The booklets also ask you to rotate the mattress, use a suitable base and bed linen, and leave it unmodified. Skipping those care steps gives Silentnight grounds to refuse an otherwise valid fault claim. Source: Silentnight lifetime guarantee brochure
- Base. The lifetime booklet asks for slats 7cm to 10cm wide with gaps of no more than 6cm, and says tubular and mesh frames don’t give enough support. Other pages in the guarantee materials give slightly different slat figures, so stay at the tighter end. A Silentnight reply to a floor-use complaint on Trustpilot cites the base requirement.
- Rotation. Rotate top to toe weekly for the first two to three months, then monthly. Turn double-sided models as well.
- Protection. Silentnight recommends a breathable protector from new, and the guarantee won’t accept soiled or unhygienic items. Our protector guide compares the options.
- Use. Domestic use only, no modifications, and never without bed linen.
What If Silentnight or the Retailer Refuses Your Claim?
The guarantee is separate from your legal rights, which run against the retailer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. You have 30 days to reject a faulty item, then one repair or replacement attempt, and faults in the first six months are presumed present at delivery. Claims can run six years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, five in Scotland. Source: Which?
After six months the burden shifts: you may need to show the fault existed at delivery, possibly with an expert report, so early photos matter. Here’s the escalation ladder, in order.
| Step | Route | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Retailer, in writing | Your statutory rights are against them. Keep every reply. |
| 2 | Silentnight’s guarantee | Direct purchases, or claims after year one. |
| 3 | Retailer’s ombudsman or ADR scheme | Only if the retailer belongs to one. |
| 4 | Citizens Advice and Trading Standards | Advice and reporting. Trading Standards can’t act for you personally. |
| 5 | Credit card or debit card claim | Section 75 for credit card purchases of £100 to £30,000; chargeback for debit cards, generally within 120 days. |
| 6 | Small claims court | A last resort, after the Pre-Action Conduct steps. |
Steps 4 to 6 per Which?. Citizens Advice’s consumer helpline is 0808 223 1133 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm), per its consumer help page.
On the ombudsman, be precise. The Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman, formerly The Furniture Ombudsman, handles disputes only with registered members. You must first use the trader’s own complaints process and have a deadlock letter or wait three months, and the purchase must be within six years. Source: FHIO
When we searched its member list on 28 October 2026, Dreams, Bensons for Beds, Furniture Village and DFS were listed. Silentnight Group, Argos and Costco weren’t, and Silentnight’s website terms don’t mention an ombudsman or ADR scheme. So the route works if you bought from a member, not otherwise. Check the current member list before relying on it.
Will a Topper Fix a Sagging Silentnight Mattress?
A topper can soften a mattress that’s too firm or disguise a shallow impression, but it can’t restore a collapsed support layer. If you can feel the dip through the topper, or the bare mattress shows the problem, claim or replace. Treat toppers as comfort fixes for settlement, not repairs for structural failure.
Try the free fixes first: rotate on the NBF’s schedule, check the slats and any centre support legs, and air the mattress daily. If a topper still makes sense, our Airmax topper review covers what the numbers on the label mean, and MattressNextDay’s Silentnight listings show current options side by side.
When Should You Replace Instead of Repair?
Replace when the dip is clearly a lack of support, the guarantee and consumer-rights windows have closed, and rotating or adding a topper hasn’t helped. If a repair isn’t possible, Silentnight’s lifetime guarantee brochure says it will offer a credit towards a replacement. For a mattress that credit is cut by 25% at 10 to 12 years, 50% at 12 to 14 years and 75% beyond that. Source: Silentnight lifetime guarantee brochure
When you buy again, register the free “lifetime” guarantee (15 years on mattresses) within three months, use a base inside the stated limits, and photograph the mattress on day one. For where to buy, our retailer comparison lays out returns and warranty handling, and our honest assessment says where Silentnight is worth the money.
Common Questions About Silentnight Mattress Problems
Does the Silentnight guarantee cover sagging?
The guarantee covers manufacturing faults in materials or workmanship. Its booklets don’t mention sagging by name or state a minimum dip depth, and they exclude normal wear, including expected settlement of fillings. Whether a dip counts is decided case by case, sometimes after an independent in-home assessment.
My Silentnight mattress has a dip after a few months. Is that normal?
Some settlement is normal. The National Bed Federation says impressions typically form within weeks and that some are expected. A shallow, even dip where you sleep is likely settlement. One you can feel through to the base, especially within the first months, is worth photographing and reporting to your retailer.
Is Silentnight’s Trustpilot rating reliable?
It’s real but narrow. The 4.2 from 9,141 reviews covers only Silentnight’s own shop, and only customers who chose to review. It tells you about service, delivery and satisfaction. It doesn’t tell you how long mattresses last, and it can’t speak for purchases made at Argos, Dreams or other retailers.
Why does my new Silentnight mattress feel soft and look dipped after a few weeks?
New mattresses settle. Silentnight’s booklet says to expect a little settlement as fillings relax, plus slight foam softening in the first weeks. Rotating weekly for two to three months spreads the wear. If the dip keeps deepening or you feel the springs, claim early.
Can I complain to the Furniture Ombudsman about Silentnight?
Only if the business you bought from is a registered member. The ombudsman doesn’t investigate non-members, and we didn’t find Silentnight Group on the member list when we checked. Use the retailer’s complaints process first, then ask whether they belong to an ombudsman or ADR scheme.
