Search for a Silentnight mattress protector and you’ll find a surprisingly crowded shelf. Silentnight’s own website lists just four mattress protectors, yet Argos stocks ten under the same brand, and bed specialists and MFI carry a few more. The names don’t help either. “Waterproof”, “quilted” and “anti-allergy” don’t map neatly onto what’s inside, and one product even contradicts itself between retailers.
We checked every current listing we could reach on silentnight.co.uk, Argos, MattressNextDay and MFI in late October 2026, then read Silentnight’s September 2025 guarantee booklet to see what a protector means for a claim. Prices are what those pages showed on the day. This site is independent of Silentnight Group Ltd.
Key Takeaways
- Five of the twelve designs we compared are waterproof, three are explicitly not, and four (Soft as Silk, Quilted, Anti-Allergy, Super Snuggly) don’t say clearly. Don’t assume "protector" means waterproof.
- The Anti-Allergy protector is described as waterproof on silentnight.co.uk but “not waterproof” in Argos’s Q&A. Treat it as a comfort and allergy cover unless the label says otherwise.
- Single protectors run from £9 to £28, and the basic Waterproof model is £11 at MattressNextDay, £15 at Argos and absent from silentnight.co.uk’s protector page.
- Silentnight’s September 2025 guarantee booklet recommends a protector from new. We found no clause that says using one voids a claim, but items that are “soiled or unhygienic” are refused.
- Most protectors fit mattresses up to 30cm deep. Check length too: a standard single won’t cover a 200cm mattress.
Which Silentnight mattress protectors can you buy right now?

That’s a lot of columns. Read the waterproof one first, because the product names mislead most there, then compare price and rating. Source: Silentnight protectors · Argos · MattressNextDay · MFI Silentnight also sells a waterproof cot bed protector at £22 with an 18cm skirt and Anti-Allergy Pillow Protectors from £14.
How much should a Silentnight mattress protector cost?
Budget £11 to £17 for a single waterproof protector from a bed specialist or Argos, and £25 for the quilted version direct from Silentnight. Argos single prices climb from £15 to £28 across the range, and the cheapest models aren’t the worst rated, so price alone tells you very little.
Does dearer mean better? Not reliably. The plain Waterproof protector shows how far retailers can drift on one product. MattressNextDay lists it at £11 single, £14 double and £16 king, against Argos at £15, £17 and £21. Its page quotes RRPs of £20.99 to £29.99, so treat those “was” prices with caution. The next table lines up the three sellers, using Silentnight’s own quilted Supersoft as its nearest equivalent. Source: MattressNextDay

Do mattress protectors void a Silentnight guarantee?
Not according to Silentnight’s booklet, which recommends a protector from new and has no clause that penalises one. What it refuses is anything “soiled or unhygienic”, and it doesn’t cover accidental damage. Which? also notes that failing to follow care instructions can invalidate a guarantee. A protector is the cheapest way of staying on the right side of all three.
| What the booklet says | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Recommends a breathable protector from new, to guard against body moisture and other liquids | Fitting one on day one is what Silentnight itself advises |
| Cannot accept items that are soiled or unhygienic | A mattress with liquid damage may be refused, and “soiled” isn’t defined |
| Does not cover accidental damage | A spill is your risk, not a manufacturing fault |
| Mattress should not be used without bed linen | Protector plus fitted sheet, never a bare mattress |
| Claims need photos of the full product with bed linen removed, plus the base | Take the protector off before you photograph the fault |

What size and depth do you need?
Most Silentnight protectors state a 30cm maximum mattress depth, which suits nearly every Silentnight mattress. Length is the bigger trap. Argos’s Q&A confirms a single protector is too short for a 90 x 200cm mattress and a double won’t cover a 200cm length. Measure before ordering.
- Depth: The Waterproof, Supersoft, Healthy Growth, Soft as Silk and Restore Cooling models all quote up to 30cm. The Complete Encasement warns that deeper mattresses strain the zip.
- Straps versus skirt: Hotel Collection, Bounceback and Quilted use corner straps, and Argos lists Anti-Allergy the same way. Reviewers report straps slipping off or leaving gaps, while a fitted skirt grips like a sheet.
- Gaps in the range: Silentnight’s own Supersoft Waterproof skips small double and super king, and its Anti-Allergy skips single and small double. Argos stocks all five sizes of most models.
- Standard sizes: Silentnight lists single at 90 x 190cm, small double 120 x 190cm, double 135 x 190cm, king 150 x 200cm and super king 180 x 200cm. Our UK sizing guide has the full table.

Which protector suits allergies, and does it really help?
For a diagnosed dust-mite allergy, Allergy UK advises barrier covers that are breathable, completely enclose the mattress and have been tested to stop allergen escaping. By Argos’s account the Anti-Allergy protector covers only the top; the zipped Complete Encasement is the only design that fully encloses.
None of that makes the Anti-Allergy protector a bad buy. It has 4.5 stars from 1,804 Argos reviews, and only 4.5% are 1 or 2 stars. It’s simply a comfort layer with allergy-friendly fibres, not a clinical barrier. Source: Allergy UK · Argos
How often should you wash a mattress protector?
Silentnight advises washing a mattress protector every one to two months, and more often with allergies, night sweats, pets or spills. Follow the care label, because temperatures differ between models, from 30°C to 40°C, and a hot wash isn’t safe for all of them. Source: Silentnight
Argos lists the plain Waterproof model as line dry, while the quilted comfort protectors tolerate tumble drying. A spare for wash day is cheap insurance.
Which Silentnight protector should you buy?
For most households, the plain Waterproof protector at £11 to £21 is the value pick, with Terry Towelling for children’s beds. For quilted comfort without spill protection, Hotel Collection is the best rated at 4.7 stars. Allergy sufferers should read the section above first.
| Your priority | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Accidents, kids, incontinence | Waterproof, Terry Towelling or Healthy Growth | Confirmed waterproof; Terry has a waterproof skirt and a 4.8 rating |
| Everyday protection, softer feel | Hotel Collection or Bounceback | 4.7 and 4.6 on Argos, but not waterproof |
| Dust-mite allergy | Complete Encasement, with 60°C bedding | Closest to Allergy UK’s fully enclosing advice, though untested independently |
| Hot sleeper | Restore Cooling | Cooling claim only; Argos’s review summary says the effect can fade |
| Cold sleeper | Super Snuggly | Teddy fleece, but waterproofing isn’t stated |
| Cheapest cover | Quilted from £9 (bed specialist) | Check it is waterproof on the label if that matters |
Note that the Super Snuggly protector is a different product to the popular Super Snuggly topper; we compare the topper in our Super Snuggly topper review. Unsure about the mattress itself? Our honest assessment of Silentnight mattresses may help.
Where should you buy a Silentnight mattress protector?
Argos has the widest range and most sizes, a bed specialist was cheapest on the basic Waterproof and Quilted models, and silentnight.co.uk sells a short direct range. Returns differ, so check first: Silentnight refunds accessories only within 14 days of receipt, and the buyer pays return postage unless the item is faulty. Source: Silentnight returns
Argos’s standard returns policy applies to unwanted items. MFI lists the Complete Encasement, and it also appears on Amazon UK. We found no Silentnight protector at Dunelm in our checks (October 2026).
Frequently Asked Questions
If my Silentnight mattress gets stained, is the guarantee still valid?
Not necessarily. Silentnight’s booklet says it can’t accept items that are soiled or unhygienic, and accidental damage isn’t covered. A spill stain isn’t a manufacturing fault. Fit a protector from day one; your statutory rights against the retailer still apply.
Which Silentnight protector is best if I have dust-mite allergies and need spill protection too?
The Complete Encasement is the only Silentnight design that is both waterproof and zipped fully round the mattress, at £22 to £26 from MFI. Wash your sheets at 60°C as well, as Allergy UK advises. We found no independent test of its dust-mite barrier.
Do waterproof mattress protectors make you hot or noisy?
Sometimes. Silentnight’s own Supersoft page has reviewers complaining of rustling, though only eight reviews. Argos reviewers call the plain Waterproof model quiet. Argos’s supplier notes that waterproof fabrics are non-breathable by design, so hot sleepers should weigh that trade-off.
Can I use a protector under a topper or electric blanket?
Yes. Silentnight’s order is protector first, topper above, fitted sheet on top. For electric blankets, Argos’s supplier answer is mattress, protector, heated blanket, fitted sheet, and to unplug the blanket if an accident is likely.
How long do Silentnight protectors last?
Silentnight lists a 2-year guarantee on the protectors we checked, which covers faults, not lifespan. Washing wears the waterproof layer eventually. Replace one if it leaks, the backing peels or the elastic stops gripping.
